The 45s form a large circle on a pointed yellow or red wall, as if they were planets themselves in our galaxy. Each record has to be played in order to locate from our memory what planet each record might suggest. The records are made up of found musical recording, from sci-films that have been remixed to suggest to the viewer what planet he or she might be listening to. Since 90% of the universe is in total blackness, and one needs a telescope to reveal what is out there, through meditation – one has to play the record to locate its identity – Jack Goldstein.

bio.

Canadian performance and conceptual artist, painter and filmmaker, born 27 September 1945 in Montreal, Canada and died 14 March 2003, San Bernadino, California, USA. A performance artist with roots in minimalist sculpture, a conceptual artist who made experimental films and their audio equivalent on vinyl records, Goldstein divided his time between Los Angeles and New York during the 1970s, eventually becoming one of the linchpins of the Pictures Group, which gained its first recognition at Artist's Space in New York City in the fall of 1977. Goldstein may be remembered for a certain conceptual/representational approach to picturemaking that helped shape a generation of artists and beyond, even though they might not even be aware of him.
